Sammy Pea was first drawn by Max Fleischer as a background character on Popeye's Goon Island back when everything was still in black and white. He eventually escaped and drifted on the warm-water currents of the south Atlantic for 17 years, befriended by a talking jellyfish named Squishy Delmar.
In the tidal by and by, our hero washed up on a mudflat in coastal Georgia - delirious, surrounded by fiddler crabs, and spouting grand plans of making millions through the sale of explosive tattoos.
When those bold dreams crashed onto the jagged rocks of 1978, Sammy Pea set into motion a convoluted, 3 decades long master plan to sell superior fine art and a collection of oddball tee shirts to anyone with a wrinkled sawbuck.
Now Sammy Pea paints by day, and does color commentary for local-access raccoon wrestling by night in the snowy, back woods of Moravia, New York. He can also be found wandering the streets of New York City or his adopted hometown of Americus, Georgia, clicking his teeth to the cadence of an interior monologue known only to him.
Sammy Pea is never going back to Goon Island!
